Setting up automatic dimension correction for bank transactions

When bank transactions are posted at import, they often initially post without dimensions. After a matched expense is posted with dimensions that the expense user entered, the bank transaction's G/L entries then update automatically to match the expense dimensions. This ensures accurate financial reporting and reconciliation across departments.

Hinweis

This feature is available in Continia Expense Management version 28.0 and later.

Prerequisites

For this functionality to work, Post at import must be enabled. If it isn't already enabled, then go to:

  • Expense Management Setup > Bank Transaction > toggle on Post at import.

Set up dimension correction

When you post an expense that has been matched to a bank transaction, the expense posts with the dimensions you've entered (such as, department, project, cost center).

After the expense posts successfully, the system automatically identifies the related bank transaction's G/L entries. At the same time, a dimension correction runs in the background without interrupting the posting process.

The bank transaction's G/L entries update to match the expense dimensions. And, with Correct Dimensions enabled, the system analysis views can update automatically.

To set up dimension correction:

  1. In Business Central, search () for and select Expense Management Setup.
  2. Under Bank Transaction, toggle on Correct Dimensions.

The setup validates that Post at import is enabled.

View correction history

This feature works for bank transactions that have had dimensions corrected. The history shows:

  • Which dimensions were changed
  • The original and new dimension values
  • When the correction was carried out
  • The correction status (for example, completed or failed)

To view the history of dimension corrections applied to a bank transaction:

  1. Search () for and select Bank Transactions or Posted Bank Transactions.
  2. Select the bank transaction you want to review.
  3. Click Actions > History of Dimension Corrections.

View and resolve failed corrections

If a dimension correction fails, you receive the following in-app notification:

"Failed automatic Dimension Corrections for Card Transactions requires attention."

The most common reasons why corrections fail is because:

  • G/L entries are closed or locked
  • Dimension values are blocked or restricted
  • Analysis view updates fail due to configuration issues

Best practice is to enable dimension correction after ensuring your dimension setup is stable, this includes:

  • Regularly monitoring notifications for failed corrections
  • Using the correction history to audit dimension changes
  • Ensuring that users posting expenses enter complete and accurate dimension information

To view and resolve failed corrections:

  1. Click the notification to open Dimension Corrections, which displays your failed corrections.
  2. Review the error message in each failed correction.
  3. After resolving the underlying issue, manually restart the correction.
