Search rules FAQ
If you are having trouble working with search rules, this FAQ addresses common issues and provides solutions.
Why is my search rule not applied?
Symptoms
A search rule does not match the bank statement lines you expect it to match.
Possible causes
- The rule setup is not complete. A notification appears on the rule, or one or more mandatory fields are marked with a red asterisk.
- The rule is disabled.
- The filters on the rule exclude the lines you expect to match.
- The rule uses the wrong search field template, so the system is looking in fields that do not contain the search text.
- The bank statement line has a different account type than the one specified on the rule.
Solution
- Complete all mandatory fields on the rule. Mandatory fields are marked with a red asterisk, and a notification on the rule indicates what is missing.
- Make sure the rule is enabled. On the Search Rule page, on the General FastTab, the Disable toggle must be off.
- On the Search Rule page, review the filters on the Rule Filter FastTab and confirm they include the lines you want to match.
- On the Search Rule page, on the General FastTab, check that the Search Field Template is set to a template that covers the field containing the search text. For more information, see Search field templates for search rules.
- If the bank statement line has a different account type than the rule, turn on the Ignore Account Type toggle on the rule.
Can I change the posting description on the statement line?
Yes. You can set a posting description template on the search rule. When the rule is applied, the template controls the posting description used on the resulting line.
On Search Rule page, on the Posting FastTab, you can configure how lines are posted by adding a template to the Posting Description Template.
