Onboarding Citibank

As a Citibank customer, you can use Continia Banking to send payments and retrieve bank statements and payment status files directly between Citibank and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. The Continia Banking setup wizard generates the SSH key pair for you and sends the public key by email, so you can forward it to Citibank.

Note

Citibank direct communication uses the bank system Citibank - CitiConnect ISO20022. Payment files are sent in Citibank's ISO XML Credit V3 format (pain.001.001.03). No feature password or Continia Feature Management setting is required.

To prepare for direct communication

Citibank handles each customer through that customer's own Citibank coverage team. Continia can't contact Citibank on your behalf, so you must introduce Continia to your Citibank implementation contact and agree on the following before you start.

Gather the following from Citibank:

  • The CitiConnect for Files SFTP host address and port. The wizard suggests csftp-citi.ms.gxs.com and port 22. Only change them if Citibank tells you to.
  • Your User No. (User ID) for the SFTP account. Citibank sends the User ID by email when you sign the agreement.
  • The exact inbound and outbound directory paths that Citibank has provisioned on the SFTP account, including uppercase and lowercase. Test and production are separate SFTP users with separate paths.
  • Confirmation that the debit accounts you pay from are registered on your CitiConnect file profile, for test and for production separately. Enter each account on the bank account card in Business Central, either as the IBAN or as Citibank's short account number without leading zeros and without a registration number.

Agree on the following with Citibank:

  • Payment file names - agree on a prefix for the payment files, for example CITI*XMLV3*. You set the prefix in Business Central afterwards. For more information, see To set the payment file name.
  • Status report and statement file names - Continia Banking only downloads files whose names contain PAIN.002 (payment status), CAMT.053 (bank statements), or CAMT.054 (intraday reporting), written in uppercase. Ask Citibank to name the files accordingly and to deliver them to the inbound directory, one statement file per account.
  • Delete permission on the inbound directory - Continia Banking deletes each file from the SFTP directory after the file has been downloaded, so the SFTP user needs delete rights there.
  • Statement delivery - Citibank delivers CAMT.053 and CAMT.054 files on request only. Order the files as part of your CitiConnect file profile.
  • Authorization of payments - payment files are authorized in CitiDirect by your own users. Continia Banking never authorizes payments at the bank, so choose the authorization level that suits your organization.
  • SSH public keys - Citibank needs one public key per SFTP user, for test and for production. The keys are generated by the Continia Banking wizard, so you deliver the keys after you have completed the steps below in each company.

To set up direct communication

After you have your Citibank SFTP user and directory paths, run the setup wizard in Continia Banking.

  1. Search for and select Bank Account Setup.
  2. Click Next to start the assisted setup.
  3. On the Bank Accounts step, select the bank account you want to connect to Citibank. If your bank account isn't listed, create a bank account by selecting New Bank Account.
  4. On the Choose communication method step, in the Communication Type field, select Direct, then click Next.
  5. On the Choose bank system step, in the Bank System field, select Citibank - CitiConnect ISO20022, then click Next.
  6. On the Create Keys step, fill in the following fields. All fields are required.
    • Address/IP - the SFTP host provided by Citibank. Prefilled with csftp-citi.ms.gxs.com.
    • Port - the SFTP port. Prefilled with 22.
    • Company Name, Address, Post Code, Phone No. - your company details, prefilled from Company Information. These details are included in the email that carries the SSH key.
    • Contact Name and Contact Email - the person responsible for the bank communication, prefilled from your user.
    • Recipient Email - your own email address, that is, an internal address in your organization. You receive the email with the SSH key and forward the email to your Citibank contact. Don't enter Citibank's address here.
    • User No. - the User ID you received from Citibank.
    • PIN Code - a password of your choice that protects the private SSH key. Use only the letters A-Z, a-z, and the digits 0-9.
  7. Click Next. Continia Banking generates an RSA 2048-bit SSH key pair, stores the key pair as the bank's authentication entry, and sends an email with the subject . Key for approval. The email contains the key algorithm, key length, and fingerprint, and the public key as the attachment public_openssh.
  8. Forward the email with the public key to your Citibank implementation contact. Citibank registers the key on your SFTP user.
  9. Follow the remaining wizard steps to complete the setup.

After you complete the wizard, the bank account status is set to Ready.

Important

The status Ready means that the key has been created in Business Central. The status doesn't mean that Citibank has activated the key. Wait for Citibank's confirmation before you send payments.

Repeat the wizard in each company that needs its own Citibank connection, for example a test company connected to Citibank's test environment and a production company connected to production. Each run creates its own key pair and its own email.

To enter the SFTP directories

The directory paths are entered on the bank card, not in the wizard.

  1. Search for and select Banks - Continia Banking.
  2. Open the card for Citibank.
  3. On the Communication Agreement Citibank FastTab, fill in the following fields with the paths provided by Citibank, exactly as spelled by Citibank:
    • File Path/Folder for Export - the directory where Continia Banking places payment files.
    • File Path/Folder for Import - the directory where Citibank places payment status reports and bank statements.

To set the payment file name

By default, Continia Banking names a payment file -.xml. To use the prefix agreed on with Citibank, create a file name template and assign the template to the bank system:

  1. Search for and select Banking Templates.
  2. Click New, set Type to Filename, enter a Code (for example CITIXMLV3) and a Description, then build the pattern: the agreed prefix followed by the payment ID field. For more information, see Using templates in Continia Banking.
  3. Search for and select Bank Systems, open Citibank - CitiConnect ISO20022, and in the Export Filename Template field, select the template. Leave Export File Extension as xml.

If a payment method needs its own file name, set the same two fields on the Bank System Payment Methods page instead. A template on the payment method takes precedence over the bank system.

To restore the connection

To create a new key pair and restore the connection:

  1. Delete the existing authentication entry. For more information, see Managing tokens and certificates.
  2. Run the Bank Account Setup wizard again and forward the new public key to Citibank.

If you run the wizard while an authentication entry still exists, no new key is created. Continia Banking saves your entries and sends the email again with the existing public key.
