Bank connection setup options for the DACH region
Continia Banking supports several methods for connecting to banks in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DACH). The available connection method depends on your bank, your banking agreements, and the services supported by your financial institution.
This article provides an overview of the available connection options and links to the corresponding onboarding instructions. Review the options below and choose the method that best matches your bank and business requirements.
Note
Continia Banking is constantly working on adding support for new banks. For an overview of currently supported banks, refer to the Banks overview article.
Direct communication through BANKSapi
BANKSapi is a service provider that provides access to banks in the DACH region through a single interface. It works entirely in the background: agreements and authorizations are made directly with your bank, and all technical data exchange happens automatically once set up. You only interact with your bank and no extra tasks or direct contact with BANKSapi is required.
Depending on your bank and agreement, BANKSapi supports two communication standards within Continia Banking:
- EBICS – a secure, bank-hosted communication standard commonly used by European banks for exchanging account statements and payment files.
- PSD2 – an EU regulation that requires banks to securely open access to customer account data and payment initiation to licensed third-party providers via APIs.
For more information, see BANKSapi and Continia Banking.
Direct communication through konfipay
konfipay is a service provider that provides access to banks in the DACH region. For more information, see Onboarding through konfipay.
Manual communication
Manual communication is a method for exchanging banking files between Business Central and your bank that relies on manually downloading and uploading files. It is suitable when your bank doesn't support direct integration or open banking connections. For more information, see Bank communication.
When your bank or third-party systems operate outside Business Central, Azure Blob Storage integration offers a secure, cloud-based method for exchanging files. Continia Banking can automatically deposit or retrieve files (such as payment files, statements, or reconciliation data) from an Azure storage container. For detailed setup instructions, see Setting up Azure Blob Storage for Continia Banking.
