Importing CSV bank statements into the Bank Acc. Reconciliation

If your bank delivers account statements as CSV or Excel files, you can import them directly into the Bank Acc. Reconciliation by using a CSV port with the import target Account Statement. Continia Banking handles the file in the same way as an imported bank statement: it creates the statement lines, sets the balances, and can apply the lines to bank ledger entries.

Note

Importing CSV bank statements into the Bank Acc. Reconciliation is available in version 29.0.0 or later.

Prerequisites

Before you import a CSV bank statement, make sure that:

  • A CSV port with the import target Account Statement exists. If the file contains a running balance, fill in the Balance field of the CSV port with the position of the balance column. The field is shown only for the import target Account Statement. In the CSV Port Setup wizard, you set the balance column together with the currency and amount columns. For more information, see Setting up CSV ports and Setting up CSV ports using the wizard.
  • The bank account is set up for the CSV port. For more information, see Setting up bank accounts for CSV ports.

To import a CSV bank statement

  1. Search for and select Bank Acc. Reconciliations.

  2. Open the reconciliation that you want to import into. To create a reconciliation, select New, and then select the bank account in the Bank Account No. field.

  3. On the action bar, select Home, and then in the Import CSV group, select one of the following actions:

    • Import and Apply CSV Bank Statement - imports a bank statement from a CSV file that you select, and applies the imported transactions.
    • Import new CSV Bank Statement - imports new transaction data from a CSV file that you select. The lines are not applied.
    • Import Existing CSV Bank Statement - refreshes the transaction data from CSV files that were imported earlier. You don't have to select a file.

    Note

Import New CSV Bank Statement and Import Existing CSV Bank Statement are available when you select Page > Show More Actions. The Import CSV group is available only if the bank account is set up for a CSV port with the import target Account Statement.

  4. In the Import CSV File dialog, in the CSV Port field, select the CSV port. The lookup shows only CSV ports with the import target Account Statement that are set up for the bank account. If only one CSV port is available, Continia Banking fills in the field. Select OK.

  5. Select the file that you want to import.

  6. In the Bank Accounts and Currencies dialog, select the bank account for each currency in the file, and then select OK. The dialog opens every time you import a file, because a reconciliation belongs to one bank account and one currency.

Continia Banking converts the file, saves it in the file archive, and creates the statement lines for the bank account of the reconciliation. If you selected Import and Apply CSV Bank Statement, Continia Banking also applies the lines to ledger entries.
