Introducing regulatory reporting and external codes

Some countries require the use of specific reporting codes for cross-border payments to ensure compliance with financial regulations. For example, in Germany, any amounts over €50,000 leaving the country must be reported to the Bundesbank. Similarly, in Sweden and Norway, payments exceeding 150,000 SEK and 100,000 NOK, respectively, must trigger a warning. Continia Banking simplifies this process by providing predefined codes, validation handling, and the ability to configure these rules directly on the vendor, ensuring that the required regulatory reporting codes are also included in the exported payment file.

Note

We have renamed Regulatory Reporting to External Codes to better reflect its purpose of mapping Business Central values to external identifiers.

To view the regulatory reporting codes:

  • Search (Search) for and select External Codes for an overview of the code types in relation to the countries they are used for. Use the filters to find the regulatory reporting codes.

You can view or edit external codes on the vendor and customer card or on the ledger entry directly:

  • Open the card, then on the action bar, select Related > Vendor > External Codes. When you assign regulatory reporting codes to a vendor card, those codes are automatically applied to all future purchase documents for that vendor. For more information on the External Codes page, see the Working with external codes page.

Note

Z4 codes classify German cross-border transactions for central bank reporting. Manage them on the Vendor card via Related > Vendor > Z4 Codes. For more information, see the Introducing Z4 reporting article.

Manual setups

The following manual setups allow you to customize and configure essential information for regulatory reporting. These setups help ensure that all relevant data is properly aligned with your reporting requirements:

  • Reporting Setup - on this page, you can configure the Reporting Type, Reporting Amount, and Company Number (for German localizations, this number is provided by the Bundesbank). For example, in a German localization, if the Reporting Amount is set to €50,000. Any international payment exceeding this amount generates a reporting entry.
  • External Code - on this page, you can add the Type, Code, Description, and Code Group.

Important

Assigning multiple external codes on a Vendor or Customer card can cause issues with reporting or exports. Only use multiple codes if you understand the potential impact.

Code groups

Continia Banking provides a pre-filled table of external codes and their groups. Currently, the Group field categorizes transactions into Transit, Service, or Capital, which align with German bookkeeping standards. This feature provides a structured approach to managing and reporting regulatory information related to ledger entries. While Continia Banking currently focuses on Germany, we are working to expand regulatory reporting support to other regions.
