Setting up Direct Debit

Continia Banking Direct Debit functionality enhances the standard Business Central functionality and lets you view Customer Direct Debit Suggestions to track direct debit collections from a customer's bank account to your bank account.

To set up Direct Debit

To set up Direct Debit:

  1. Use the Search icon and search for Banking Export Setup and select the related link.
  2. Navigate to the Direct Debit FastTab and enable Use Direct Debit.
  3. From the Default Template Name and Default Batch Name fields, you can select the templates you want to use for Direct Debit. These fields specify the default template and batch names for payment suggestions when processing direct debits. Upon activation, the setup server will automatically prefill these values.

To view Direct Debit mandate usages

To see the different usages directly from the Direct Debit mandate, you can view the payment register to track where the mandate was used. The log shows the voided transactions, and any actions taken, providing a clear record of all mandate usages and voids.

To view how direct debit is used:

  1. Use the Search icon, enter SEPA Direct Debit Mandates and select the related link.

  2. On the Direct Debit Mandate Usages page, you can see a list of the different payment registers. For example, you could see that a Direct Debit mandate was used but subsequently voided. This helps identify discrepancies, such as why a mandate appears to have been used only five times instead of six.

To process Direct Debit payment suggestions

With Continia Banking, you can take advantage of an extended journal for direct debit payments that provides enhanced functionality for your payment processes. Additionally, you have the ability to create a payment suggestion template for direct debits, which automatically populates your direct debit journal, such as every morning. It is also possible to set up an approval workflow for your direct debit journal.

To create Direct Debit payment suggestions:

  1. Use the Search icon, search for Payment Suggestions and select the related link.
  2. On the payment suggestions page, on the action bar, select Suggest Customer Direct Debits.
  3. On the suggest page, follow the same steps as described in the Suggesting and Processing Payment article. The journal information gets prefilled by the settings from the Banking Export Setup.
  4. On the Payment Suggestion Card, you will now see the SEPA Mandate ID, SEPA Mandate Sequence Type, and SEPA Mandate Date of Signature fields. Depending on whether you have automatic validation in place, you can proceed.
  5. On the action bar, select Create Journal Lines. You can access the Direct Debit Journal directly from this page. Alternatively, you can navigate to the Direct Debit Journal from the payment suggestion page. You can now proceed like you would in any other journal.
