BANKSapi and Continia Banking
Continia Banking uses BANKSapi to provide a secure and standardized connection to multiple banks. BANKSapi acts as a central layer that unifies different banking protocols, so Continia Banking can support many banks without individual technical integrations. It handles authentication, security, and bank-specific variations, ensuring reliable communication and consistent processing of payment files and statements.
Although agreements and authorizations are made directly with your bank, all technical data exchange is routed through BANKSapi.
Important
You can enable onboarding through BANKSapi from the Continia Feature Management page. A password is required, which you can request from Continia.
Supported communication standards
Depending on your bank and agreement, BANKSapi supports different communication standards within Continia Banking:
- EBICS – a secure, bank-hosted communication standard commonly used by European banks for exchanging account statements and payment files.
- PSD2 – an EU regulation that requires banks to securely open access to customer account data and payment initiation to licensed third-party providers via APIs.
Note
Availability of communication standards depends on your bank. For details on supported banks and standards, see the Banks overview article.
Onboarding through BANKSapi
The onboarding process depends on the communication standard used by your bank. Each standard has its own prerequisites and setup steps.
- To onboard banks using EBICS, see Onboarding EBICS through BANKSapi.
- To onboard banks using PSD2, see Onboarding PSD2 through BANKSapi.
