Updating an Emission Factor set
Emission factor values can change as the global economy shifts. Since these values depend on how goods are produced, they are constantly evolving. There are several reasons why you might need to update an emission factor. For example, if production processes improve and reduce environmental impact, the emission factor should go down. Likewise, if inflation causes prices to rise but the environmental impact stays the same, the emission factor might need adjusting. Other reasons include updates to calculation methods or corrections to errors in the original values.
To update an emission factor, you can modify its value by searching for the Emission Factor Sets page, selecting the relevant set, and navigating to the specific emission factor's detailed page.
However, if you have already posted emissions using an environmental account linked to this emission factor, it might be better to create a new version of the emission factor set and discontinue the old one.
To create a new version of an emission factor set:
- Use the
icon, enter Emission Factor Sets, and select the related link. - Select the No. of Versions field, and create a new version (e.g., 2024.1).
- Select the No. of Emission Items, and the No. of Factors.
- From the action bar, select New and specify the new version number in the Emission factor Set Version Code column.
- From the action bar, select Detailed Emission Factors. Here, you can indicate the activity to which the emission factor applies.
- Finally, select View from the action bar. In this last section, you can specify the emission factor values broken down by the six Kyoto Protocol gases, the corresponding Assessment Report number, and the relevant sources.
