Klimakompasset
The Klimatkompasset database contains the emission factors used in Denmark. Klimakompasset is a voluntary tool that has been developed by the Danish Business Authority (Erhvervsstyrelsen) in collaboration with the Danish Energy Agency (Energistyrelsen). It provides both measurement and guidance to help companies assess and establish climate goals. The tool applies to Danish companies as well as international companies with business operations in Denmark. It covers various aspects such as energy, fuels, refrigerants, purchases, waste and recycling, leased assets, sold products, and transportation of goods and passengers/employees.
Tip
For the latest file version of this emission factor set and to explore additional databases managed by Continia, see the Emission Factor Databases Overview article.
Some essential features of the Klimakompasset Emission Factor Set:
Based on multiple data sources - the emission factors in the Klimakompasset are calculated based on data from a large number of different data sources:
- The Danish Energy Agency, Defra, Energinet, Denmark's Statistics, Exiobase, DCE – National Center for the Environment and Energy, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, Plastics Europe, and more.
- The emission factors in the main categories, Procurement and Waste, and recycling, are primarily based on a top-down approach through the input-output database Exiobase, which is adapted to the structure of Klimakompasset and the methodology of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The Klimakompasset also has emission factors for purchases based on a bottom-up approach for selected activities (such as bricks, plastics, and textiles).
Divided by scope - the main advantage of this database is its categorization of emission factors by the scope of use: scope 1, 2, 3, and outside of scope. It's a hybrid database, offering information on both monetary values and physical quantities, all expressed in CO2 equivalents per activity unit.

Note
Access to the Klimakompasset database is free but limited to Danish citizens with a MiT ID.
