Printing from Business Central using the Document Output Service
Continia Document Output supports multiple ways to print documents from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central – either directly or via the Document Output print queue.
When you print multiple documents using Document Output, the documents can be sent to the document queue and then from there to the print queue. The Continia Document Output Service then connects to the print queue using Document Output web services and processes the print jobs according to your printer selection settings in Business Central.
To print a document directly
In order to print a document directly from Business Central, follow these steps:
- In the Business Central web client, go to the Role Center.
- In the Document Output section, select a cue for unhandled documents – for example, Unhandled Sales > Sales Invoices – to open the related page.
- In the list of documents, select the one that you want to print.
- In the action bar, select Print PDF to print the document. A printer dialog opens.
Note For this feature to work, Local Print Service must be enabled in the Document Output Setup in Business Central, and Enable local printing must be selected in the Service Manager during configuration.
- In the action bar, select Print to print the document.
The document is now printed from the printer you've set up.
To print documents via the print queue
In order to print multiple documents from Business Central via the Document Output print queue, follow these steps:
- In the Business Central web client, go to the Role Center.
- In the Document Output section, select a cue for unhandled documents – for example, Unhandled Sales > Sales Invoices – to open the related page.
- In the action bar, select Send all to Queue to send all unhandled documents that are to be printed to the document queue.
Note You can also send individual documents to the document queue: In the list of documents, open the one you want to send. From the opened document, go to the FactBox on the right, and then select Document Output > Queue Email.
- In the Role Center, in the Document Output section, go to the Queues cue group and select Document Queue.
The document queue feature now sends all documents for print via email to the print queue, and the documents are then printed by the Document Output Service.
Note
The print server feature must be enabled and configured in order for this to work.
To view and handle printing errors
If an error occurs during printing via the print queue, follow these steps:
- In the Business Central Role Center, in the Document Output section, go to the Queues cue group and select Print Queue to open the corresponding page.
- In the action bar, select Show error message to view the error message.
- Take any necessary steps to resolve the error, as described in the error message.
- To restart any failed print jobs, select Restart in the action bar.
If the error persists, check out Resources for Help and Support for assistance.
For on-premises solutions
If you're using an on-premises solution and want to use the Document Output print queue and the Document Output Service, you must enable Use BC Print Queue in the Document Output Setup in Business Central. This could be the case if, for example, you're running the service tier in Azure or a similar service with no access to printers.
