Configuring the print server and file download using the setup assistant
The print server and file download features connect to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central using web services. If you prefer, you can set these features up individually as described in Setting up the print server and Setting up file download, or you can set them up easily using the setup assistant, as described in this article.
Tip
The setup assistant can be used to configure the print server and file download for multiple companies at the same time.
To use the setup assistant
In order to set up the print server and file download features using the setup assistant, follow these steps:
- Follow the guide in Configuring the Document Output Service to enter the Service Manager setup.
- Select the Print Server tab or the File Download tab, depending on which you want to set up:
- If you select Print Server, do as follows:

- In the Service Manager, on the Webservice Setup Assistant page, paste the copied URL into the Url to web service field.
- Under Credentials, authenticate the Document Output Service using either OAuth or a Business Central user with a generated web service access key. For more information, see the following links:
Note OAuth is required in Business Central 2022 Release Wave 1 (version 20) or later.
- Following authentication, select Continue.
Note If you're using OAuth and receive an error message, check that you can successfully generate an access token from the OAuth details dialog. Also check that your Azure application has been registered in Business Central, that user groups have been assigned to it, and that permissions have been signed in accordance with the guide.
- Available companies and Document Output web services are now fetched, and a list of available companies is displayed. Check the list to see which companies you want the Document Output Service to connect to.
- If some of the companies in the list shouldn't be connected to the Document Output Service, you can skip them: In the Action column, select Skip for each of the companies you want to exclude.
Tip If you want to connect to all available companies, no action is necessary in this step.
- Select Create to connect to the selected companies. This will also close the page and the Webservice Setup Assistant.
- Select Save > OK to implement the changes.
The print server and/or file download features are now connected to the relevant Document Output web services in Business Central, enabling them to start retrieving print jobs from the print queue and/or to start downloading documents automatically (depending on your setup).
