The Global Warming Potential of Major Greenhouse Gases page
CO₂e represents the impact of six major greenhouse gases covered under the Kyoto Protocol. Each gas has a different warming effect on the atmosphere. To standardize measurements, Continia Sustainability expresses emissions in CO₂e. To be able to integrate with Business Central Sustainability, Continia Sustainability converts these values back to their original gases.
Continia Sustainability automatically handles the conversion of CO₂ equivalents (CO₂e) into standard form of greenhouse gas emissions, ensuring accurate reporting without any manual effort. Conversion is needed as Continia Sustainability works with all six Kyoto Protocol gases and their equivalent form (CO₂e), while BC Sustainability only operates with the standard form of three gases. All conversions and updates happen in the background, with Continia Sustainability handling everything for you. No configuration or adjustments are needed - the system ensures full compliance and accuracy without any additional input.
Go to Set up > Global Warming Potential of Major Greenhouse Gases to view how Continia Sustainability predefines values based on IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) reports. These values are periodically reassessed, ensuring the most up-to-date emission factors are used. The system automatically:
- Converts kg CO₂e into standard gases (CO₂, CH₄, N₂O) when posting to the Sustainability Ledger Entry table.
- Uses the relevant IPCC assessment report (AR), as specified in the Emission Factor Dataset, to determine accurate conversion factors.
- Updates GWP values automatically—no manual input required.
Continia Sustainability tracks CO₂e emissions for:
- Carbon Dioxide (CO₂)
- Methane (CH₄)
- Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)
- Perfluorocarbons (PFCs)
- Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF₆)
- Nitrous Oxide (N₂O)
- Additional greenhouse gases
Business Central Sustainability currently only supports the first three gases, but Continia ensures all emissions are properly converted and recorded.
If you create a custom Emission Factor Set (EFS), selecting the No. of Versions field takes you to the Emission Factor Set Versions page. The IPCC Assessment Report field lets you select a version. If you leave the field blank, Continia Sustainability automatically assigns the latest IPCC report values.
